Off to Gove

We headed south to drop the Caravan at Katherine (Low Level Caravan Park) before packing the camping gear into the car for our trip along the Arnhem Highway. Our rig consists of a full camping setup allowing us to go to remote locations without stressing the van.

p6280025The road was more than acceptable with light corrugations and the occasional buffalo. The first night we camped along the road and spent the evening fixated on the night sky. Fiona and I were amazed at one point when one star seemed to erupt in a flash and then disappeared! (Later on we discovered that it may have just been a satellite).

On arriving at Nhulunbuy we made our way to our hosts Tony, Louise and family who made us wonderfully welcome and gave us the run of the house to use anytime we wished. Rita (Louise’s Mum) was in town looking after the three boys (who are all absolute gentlemen)and we are all getting along fine.

The first few nights we spent camped in their back yard organising the various indigenous camping permits required for our stay.
