Economic Development in Burnie & Cradle Mountain

You may think that bumming around Australia is all peaches and cream (and it is mostly) but like a home, a caravan and car needs maintenance and when these things usually go they all need attention when you have the least money and you are in the most inappropriate place!

So far in Tassie we have replaced the awning ($900), three new AGM batteries ($1000), had a new water tank fitted for extended bush camping ($1,200) and bought a new BBQ oven ($400). Well Mr Rudd is doing his bit and so are we!

The last week we have been playing tourist around Burnie and taking day trips to Stanley and surrounds. Some wonderful places such as Boat Harbour Beach are well worth the visit. While in Burnie we caught up with Scott and Helen (people mentioned in our last posting who we had met in the NT)  for a lovely dinner and reminisced about King Ash Bay.

While in Burnie we free camped at Penguin and Somerset and again were very impressed with the facilities the Tasmanians lay on for the caravan fraternity. They really get the economic development this sector brings in (estimated at $100 per day). And as you can see we did our bit!!!!

Heading out of Burnie we decided to visit Cradle Mountain and it was well worth it. Wonderful walks and stunning scenery. We are staying the night at the transit center car park and will do some more walks in the morning.
